August's Mom of the Month

August 'Mom of the Month'

Congratulations to Jessica Sharp, our 'Mom of the Month' for August!

Jessica has been a dedicated member of Stroller Strides for nearly a year and a half! This ICU nurse regularly attends class with her sweet son, Aaron, and is a SUPER hard and inspiring worker. And not just at Stroller Strides...I'll never forget her awesome dance moves and the determined look on her face at our Zumba MNO this spring! Jessica has made great strides in fitness, motherhood, and life, and we are so thankful that she is an integral part of our group!

Join us in congratulating Jessica and read on to get to know her a little better!

Mom of the Month Questions:

Hometown (where you grew up): Queens, NY

Current part of the Triangle that you live in: Apex

Education (optional): BS in Nursing from Adelphi University in NY

Stroller Strides Member since: April 2014

Members of your Family: My husband Brett and our son Aaron.

Tell us about your children: Aaron is 17 months old and our only child right now. He loves to be silly! I'm enjoying how cuddly he still is because I know that won't last forever!

Current/previous Career: I'm an RN in an ICU. I went to part time weekends this past fall and it's been great to be home with Aaron more.

What was your childhood ambition? I had so many! The first I remember was an astronaut, I thought I could park a space ship on my front lawn. I also wanted to sing, write, act, and be a therapist. I wanted to help people most of all and that's what drove me to nursing.

What does motherhood mean to you? I'm still figuring it out but I do know that it is loving someone more than you ever thought you were capable of. I've had a lot of rewarding moments in my nursing career but watching my son grow and meet milestones certainly competes!

What is the furthest you have been from home? Costa Rica. Best non-resort vacation I've ever taken.

What has Stroller Strides done for you (or meant to you)? It has gotten me out of the house! I had a really hard time in those first few months after my son was born. It gave me motivation to get outside and move my body which drastically improved my mood. Once I started sticking around after class I found that I was in a group of super supportive moms! I have also found that I'm stronger now than I was pre-pregnancy.

What is your favorite exercise? Crunches, especially bicycle crunches.

What is your proudest moment? It would probably be graduating college. But I like to focus on the little moments more than the big ones. Making and meeting small goals that I could not reach a year ago has really kept me going!

What are three of your favorite things (besides your family!)? Wine, books, nature.

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us or makes you unique. I'm a bit of a makeup junkie. I have learned to restrain myself in Sephora, but I still have quite a collection. Since having my son I've learned to go out with much less (or nothing!) for the sake of time.

If we asked your spouse what they think your best qualities are, what would they say? Caring and creative. He often says I'm always right, but I think he loathes that one!

What advice would you give to moms looking to get back into shape? Keep with it, do what you can, you will get there! Focus on how you feel and what you can do, that's what matters.
