May's Mom of the Month

Congratulations to Sharron Brown, our 'Mom of the Month' for May!

Sharron is part of the very early morning Body Back crew, attending our 5:45 AM classes for nearly TWO years!! She is also a long-time Running Mama, participating in our 5K program since 2011! Talk about motivated! This working mom of FOUR children, ranging in age from 9 to college-aged, is an incredibly hard worker and inspires everyone around her. Sharron has made great strides in fitness, motherhood, and life, and we are so thankful that she is an integral part of our group!

Join us in congratulating Sharron and read on to get to know her a little better!

Mom of the Month Questions:

Hometown (where you grew up): I grew up in Raleigh and have lived in the area my whole life.

Current part of the Triangle that you live in: Apex/Cary area

Education: A degree in both Industrial Pharmaceutical and Business

Fit4Mom Member since: I started with the Running Mamas group back in 2011 to tick off a 5k race from my bucket list and then stayed on with the program so that I could learn to keep up with my then 4 year old. In 2014, I found the courage to tackle the Running Mamas summer challenge 60 miles/60 days program and finished with a few days to spare! While running has been my life for the last 5 years, I found later on that I needed a jump start to my running program and joined the wonderful and exciting Body Back group and have never looked back.

Members of your Family: An awesome husband, 4 kids, and a great watch dog Carlos who also goes running with me in the early mornings.

Tell us about your children: 3 girls and 1 boy. The oldest is in her late twenties. I also have two in college any my youngest is 9 nine years old.

Current Career: I am a clinical trials Supply Chain Manager/Project Leader. I help small and large pharmaceutical companies take a product or products through the clinical trial process from start up through close out.

What was your childhood ambition? To become a veterinarian, a lawyer, and then decided I wanted to be a lifeguard. I know random right!

What does motherhood mean to you? Being a part of the "mommy club" is the best feeling ever. I would never trade it for anything in this world. Motherhood to me means being the best role model you can be even if it that means you have to eat all your vegetables too.

What is the furthest you have been from home? London, England

What has Body Back done for you (or meant to you)? Body Back has changed my life in such a positive way. I not only feel better about myself but also my outlook on life. I can't see my life without this wonderful program in it.

What has Running Mamas done for you (or meant to you)? Running Mamas is an awesome program and has meant so much to me in the last 5 years. It has allowed me to be able to keep up with my kids and show them that even their mom can run and finish a race.

What is your favorite exercise? Burpees of course - HA! No really, I'd have to say the "supermom". It's a great exercise for your lower back.

What is your proudest moment? Other than ever moment with my hubby and kids, I'd have to say when I crossed the finish line in my very first race with my then 4 year old. I was crying tears of joy so much when I saw the finish line that without her running alongside me in those last few yards I don't know if I would have been able to make it without falling flat on my face.

What are three of your favorite things (besides your family!)? Snow skiing, swimming, and a great book.

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us or makes you unique. That from the time I was 5 years old till today, I still love roller skating and go as often as I can with the kids. The best part is that I can skate backwards and my nine year old thinks that's the coolest thing ever!

If we asked your spouse what they think your best qualities are, what would they say? That I'm a great cook and love baking for my family, friends, and neighbors.

What advice would you give to moms looking to get back into shape? Go at your own pace even when you feel like you are always the last to finish. Ask questions along the way even if there is an exercise that you've never heard of. Do it for you even when others around you may think you are crazy for getting up at 5:15 in the morning to go for a run or to go to an very early morning Body Back class. Most important don't just stay out of shape even if you don’t think you can do it, give these Fit4Mom classes a try and you'll be surprised how far you can go.
