Mom of the Month Questions:
Hometown (where you grew up): Latrobe, PA
Current part of the Triangle that you live in: near downtown Apex
Education (optional): Bowling Green State University
Stroller Strides Member since: May 2015??
Members of your Family: Matt, Caleb (7), Owen (6), Jonas (3)
Tell us about your children: My boys are very active, fun, silly, and a little crazy! They are excellent at doing the chicken dance!
Current/previous Career: previously a Special Education Teacher for Wake County
What was your childhood ambition? I'm not sure that I had one! I did want to be a bartender on a cruise ship! I didn't do that, but I have drank some yummy cocktails on a cruise ship. :)
What does motherhood mean to you? Motherhood means teaching my boys to love God and to love others. There are so many ups and downs along the way, but it basically boils down to that for me.
What is the furthest you have been from home? I went by myself to Japan for 2 weeks when I was in junior high to visit a friend who had moved there.
What has Stroller Strides done for you (or meant to you)? Stroller Strides has given me my sense of self back. For a while I was putting every bit of my time and energy into raising my children and I had nothing left for me. I hit a low point, but Stroller Strides helped me to bounce back and really be happy with my family, my self, and my life.
What is your favorite exercise? running
What is your proudest moment? For Mother's Day last year Owen completed a sentence that said, "My mom is pretty when..." and he filled it in with "she does her runs."
What are three of your favorite things (besides your family!)? cooking, being creative (painting, crafting, quilting), being outside
If we asked your spouse what they think your best qualities are, what would they say? my loving personality and putting others before myself (I asked him, I didn't just come up with that on my own!)
What advice would you give to moms looking to get back into shape? Don't wait for the perfect time...when the kids are "out of a cranky phase" or when you have extra free time or when you have more energy! The perfect time is now! Celebrate your own accomplishments and be proud of yourself!
